One of the main goals of PFLAG is to keep families together. To facilitate this
goal, we provide a safe place for ALL members of the family to share their
feelings and experiences with others who have been down the same road.
What is PFLAG?
On this site you'll learn more about our local chapter of PFLAG (Parents and
Friends of Lesbians and Gays). PFLAG Louisville serves the Louisville
community as part of PFLAG
National.
PFLAG is a national non-profit organization organized in more than 440
communities in all 50 states, and represents more than 80,000 member households,
donors and supporters. Chapters range in size from a few families to several
hundred in regular attendance. PFLAG is best known for local support groups, and
they remain the heart of PFLAG’s work in communities. Particularly in rural
states, PFLAG is often the only source of information about homosexuality and
gender identity, and the only regular support for those who are gay, lesbian,
bisexual or transgender or care about someone who is. As an organization that
believes that change happens on the grassroots level in local communities, it is
PFLAG’s top priority to support the work of local affiliates. The Regional
Directors and the Field, Program and Policy Department work to strengthen local
affiliates through providing resources, technical assistance and training.
Our Vision
We, the parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgendered persons, celebrate diversity and envision a society that embraces
everyone, including those of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities.
Only with respect, dignity and equality for all will we reach our full potential
as human beings, individually and collectively. PFLAG welcomes the participation
and support of all who share in, and hope to realize, this vision.
Our Mission
Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays promotes the health and
well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons, their families
and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to
enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to
secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays
provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity,
and acts to create a society .
